Growing up in a family of seven boys in the small town of Preston, Idaho, Tyler began his musical training at the age of seven. Over the years, he has toured the country as a music director and keyboardist for numerous music artists, including Kurt Bestor, Kenneth Cope, Jericho Road, Cherie Call, and Smith 4. These productions have taken him to Denmark, Sweden, and Germany, as well as various locations throughout the United States. Tyler continues to produce concert events and tours for various clients, including Women’s Conference at BYU, Jenny Phillips, and Michael McLean’s The Forgotten Carols. He was also the production manager of the 1997 Pioneer Sesquicentennial Spectacular at BYU’s Cougar Stadium in Provo, Utah, an event produced by the LDS Church and released on DVD to be seen by audiences around the world. He was the music producer as well as composer for the 2002 Olympic spectacular Light of the World, which was seen in the Conference Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. Tyler has had vast experience in live production. While at the label, he played a key role in the release of the Grammy Award-winning album One Voice from Gladys Knight and the Saints Unified Voices. In addition, Tyler initiated the careers of many other new artists. He was instrumental in developing and launching Jericho Road, a cutting-edge group with a debut album that broke all sales records for the independent record label. Tyler served as Director of A&R for Shadow Mountain Records (a division of Deseret Book Company) from 2000 to 2005, and again from 2008 to 2009. He has also created musical scores and arrangements for BYU’s Young Ambassadors, BYU-Idaho, Tuacahn Theater, and Provo’s Freedom Festival. Other key projects include multiple Especially for Youth albums for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the bestselling Women of Destiny series, which he co-created and co-produced.Īs a film and TV composer, Tyler has worked for a prestigious array of clients, including National Geographic, Animal Planet, ABC Monday Night Movie, NuSkin International, PBS Television, WordPerfect, Sundance Film Festival, Yellowstone National Park, and BYU-TV. His creative work has resulted in award-winning albums for Latter-day Saint artists Michael McLean, Jericho Road, Hilary Weeks, Kenneth Cope, Jenny Phillips, Cherie Call, Jenny Oaks Baker, Providence, and George Dyer. In addition to his songwriting success, Tyler is well-known in the industry as an accomplished music producer and arranger. These songwriting credits include pieces recorded by Grammy Award-winner Gladys Knight, Marie Osmond, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Julie de Azevedo, Eclipse, The Jets, and country music superstar Martina McBride. Best known by his fans as a prolific and award-winning songwriter, Tyler Castleton has written songs for more than a hundred recordings of an impressive list of artists.
